John Robinson's law practice encompasses a diverse range of work, including litigation and transactional matters. He represents local governments and political subdivisions in South Carolina, addressing complex real estate issues. This includes litigating and managing transactional aspects of heirs' property, right-of-way, condemnation, and easement cases. As an out-of-house counsel for various Charleston businesses and a FINRA-approved Voting Trustee, John holds the prestigious AV Martindale-Hubbell rating, the highest achievable in the system. His commitment to community service is exemplified by his receipt of the South Carolina Bar Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year award and the South Carolina Lawyers' Weekly Leadership in the Law annual award.
In addition to his legal practice, John has held numerous roles in the legal community, including serving as a member and former officer of the Charleston County Bar. He has also served on the State Bar Board of Governors, House of Delegates, and various Bar committees. He is admitted to practice by the South Carolina Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court.
John's civic engagement is notable. He has served on the Charleston Colonial Commons and Embankment Commission, the Charleston County Board of Assessment Appeals, and currently chairs the Charleston Board of Architectural Review (BAR-L) – the oldest city board of its kind in the nation. He also serves as the attorney for the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections.
His commitment to community extends to his role as Vice-Chairman of Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services, a nonprofit offering legal aid to the indigent. He is a trustee of the Charleston Day School (CDS), past President of the Charleston School of Law Alumni Association, the Society of St. Thomas and St. Denis, and a member of the Easement Committee of the Historic Charleston Foundation. An Elder in the Presbyterian Church, he was appointed to the Order of St. John by Queen Elizabeth II.
